Fisheye's Guide to Cooking
Gentlemen, the kitchen is not just for Services Airmen and your spouses. You too can cook. I do about 95% of the cooking in our household. Perhaps she left you for a night of pampering. Or maybe you want to surprise her for her birthday. Or maybe you just need to get yourself out of the doghouse. Whatever the case, this is where we are going to have recipes that you can make with little to no kitchen skills at all. Remember, we are all in this together. I am here for you. (Of course you dont have to be a guy to use these recipes... they are for anyone.)
Jambalaya
Ingredients:
2 1/2 to 3 pounds chicken pieces, skinned
14 1/2 ounce can diced tomatoes
14 1/2 ounce can chicken broth
1 green bell pepper, chopped
2 cups french fried onions
1/4 cup Franks RedHot cayenne pepper sauce*
* this amount does not make a spicy jambalaya - I use atleast 1/2 cup
garlic powder (to taste)
1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano leaves
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 cup regular uncooked rice
Directions:
Combine the chicken, tomatoes, chicken broth, green pepper, 1 cup of the french fried onions, Franks RedHot sauce, garlic powder, oregano, salt and pepper in a crock-pot slow cooker.
Cover and cook on LOW for 4-5 hours or on HIGH for 2-2 1/2 hours.
Stir in rice. Cook on LOW for 2 1/2 hours or on HIGH for 1 1/2 hours or until rice is cooked and all liquid is absorbed.
Arrange jambalaya on serving platter. Sprinkle with remaining french fried onions.
Good luck.
